About Geert-Jan de Bont
I am living in the Netherlands in Oegstgeest, a small town between Amsterdam and Rotterdam. When I was about 4 years old it became clear I had some talent for drawing and I made quite a lot of colorful drawings. At the secondary school I did a lot more drawing, created artworks as presents for birthdays and made even some commissions. I drew dogs, cats, motorbikes, comics and cars. After secondary school I decided to become artist or illustrator so I went to Art school. After a couple of days I strongly felt this was not the right place for me. I felt is was too free, with minimal organisation and decided to switch studies and do something completely different: I started a study of applied physics at the Technical University of Delft. A great studies in which I felt challenged all the time. As a nice break in between all study hours I decided to learn how to paint. At first with oil paint but I had to get used to the long drying times. I think I don’t have the patience for that. But then I tried acrylic paint, beautiful colors and drying very quickly which I really liked.
After my studies I did a photography course and my fascination for reflections, light and colors got a big boost. It made my paintings better and I started painting more and more. I work in ICT as a project and solution manager which is quite busy but I manage to make time for my painting hobbies. In 2010 I started my own website and got some nice commissions. I try to paint about 5-15 hours a week and love to paint cars, motorbikes, reflections and sometimes portraits or animals. My style is realistic and I see each commission as a challenge to learn new techniques, colors and to become a better painter. If you are interested in my work or if you have any questions please let me know!
